Friday, 13 May 2022 (YJC)_ South Korea says its northern neighbor is preparing for a nuclear test, which will have a short-term impact on Seoul's economy.
A South Korean presidential official announced today (Friday) that North Korea appears to be ready for its seventh nuclear test.
The unnamed South Korean official said the Pyongyang government may test ballistic missiles before conducting a nuclear test.
"The Yonhap news agency quoted the official as saying:
The government intends to draw up very detailed action plans on North Korea and other regional and global issues before the next meeting between President Eun Suk-yol and US President Joe Biden.
He also said that North Korea's nuclear test would have a short-term effect on the South Korean economy, but many experts believe that Russia's attack on Ukraine and the global economic foundations are likely to be "larger structural variables."
On Thursday, North Korea fired three short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea, their first provocative move since Ion took office in South Korea.
Yesterday, the new president of South Korea also called on his cabinet to be more vigilant in responding to the resumption of nuclear tests in its northern neighbor.
