Friday, 13 May 2022 (YJC)_ In an interview, the Ukrainian president reiterated the conditions for talks with his Russian counterpart.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Friday he was ready to hold talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
According to Newsweek, in an interview with an Italian network, the Ukrainian president stressed that his condition for talks with Putin was that "there should be no end to the argument" and that the Russians should leave Ukrainian territory.
Asked about the situation in Donbass, he said he would never recognize the region's autonomy, claiming "there is nothing left" of the region.
Zelenskyy said:
I have never talked about recognizing Crimea's independence, and we will never talk about recognizing it as part of Russian territory.
The President of Ukraine also spoke about the status of the Kiev-Moscow talks:
The issue of negotiations is becoming more complicated every day because every day the Russians occupy more villages and kill people.
He spoke about the situation in Mariupol and the siege of the Azofestal steel plant.
We are ready to work with Russia to save the lives of those present and to remove the bodies from Azofostal.
Zelenskyy added:
The civilians have been evacuated so far, the wounded are now there and we do not want to leave them there.
