Finnish President Sauli Niinisto and Prime Minister Sanaa Marin today (Thursday) issued a joint statement announcing their country's desire to join NATO.
Previous reports have suggested that Sweden and Finland refused to apply for NATO membership during the Cold War, but both have been claiming for some time that recent developments and Russian special military operations in Ukraine have led them to Joining NATO is encouraging because they see their security at stake.
