Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bouhabib described the situation in Lebanon as "really bad" and said it would get worse if Syrian refugees were not returned to their country.
Speaking to France 24, Bouhabib, who attended a special Brussels meeting on "Support for the Future of Syria and the Region" (which began yesterday "Monday" and ends today), told France 24:
We have participated in this meeting to ask for help for ourselves and the Syrian refugees so that these healthy refugees can return to their homes safely; This is our most important request. Donor countries are tired of providing assistance to the displaced and are currently focused on the Ukraine crisis.
Announcing that aid to Syrian refugees has decreased, he added that their return to their country has become easier, especially after the Syrian government pardoned them, and that they can return to their country without any security problems.
Buhabib stressed that the return of refugees must be negotiated with the Syrian government, and that Europeans and the international community must be convinced that Syria has a strong system that is responsible to its people and controls most of Syria's territory.
Regarding the international position, he said:
If the international community does not approve of the return of refugees now, then donor countries should have more aid than in the past. We can no longer bear the consequences of the Syrian refugees, this is not a threat; We are ready to work with the international community on this issue.
