Tuesday, 10 May 2022 (YJC)_ The Foreign Minister said: "It is not acceptable for us in Iran for Turkey to take measures in the field of dam construction and the result will be problems for the people of Iran and the region."
Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian stated in a public session of the parliament today, Tuesday, in response to a question from the representative of Mahabad in the parliament about the illegal construction of dams in Turkey:
It is not acceptable for us in Iran for Turkey to take measures in the field of dam construction, and as a result, it will cause problems for the people of Iran and the region, as well as negatively affect the amount of water entering the country.
He continued:
This issue was asked three times during a face-to-face meeting in New York and Tehran with the Foreign Minister to pay serious attention to the construction of dams on the Aras River.
The Foreign Minister stated:
There has been no bilateral agreement between Iran and Turkey in the field of dam construction.
Amir-Abdollahian added:
Turkish government officials say our dams are located in mountainous areas and are for hydroelectric purposes only.
He continued:
Protests against Turkey have been announced and the Turkish Foreign Minister said in this regard that we do not need this water at all and we will store the water in winter and release it in summer.
The Foreign Minister stated:
To do important work in 4 months, we were able to agree on the formation of a joint border committee with Turkey for the first time in the history of water issues.
He continued:
The first trip was made to Turkey by a team of experts from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Energy, and a delegation from Turkey is scheduled to visit Iran soon.
Amir-Abdollahian raised:
All legal and political measures have been taken between Iran and Turkey.
