The Turkish military wrote today (Tuesday) that the Turkish army intends to establish a military base 50 to 60 kilometers deep in Iraq under the pretext of fighting the PKK, as part of its recent military operation in northern Iraq.
The daily writes that after the end of the Turkish military operation in northern Iraq, the Turkish army does not intend to withdraw completely, but seeks to "complete the threat" to remain on Iraqi soil.
According to the report, leaders of Iraqi Kurdistan are also cooperating with Turkey to prevent PKK elements from entering Iraqi territory. The Turkish daily Al-Sabah also reported that about 3,000 PKK militants were stationed in the Qandil Mountains in northern Iraq before the so-called "Claw-Lock" operation began.
