Tehran, YJC. Secretary of Iran's Human Rights Council Mohammad Javad Larijani said drug-related cases are going to be treated differently from now on.
Mohammad Javad Larijani, In an interview with FRANCE 24, declined to
affirm US reports that Iran had carried out airstrikes against ISIL in Iraq, asserted
that the human crisis was the consequence of the US as well as a number of its
European allies’ ‘wrong and failed policies’.
Referring to the number of executions in Iran, he said, "no
country would desire to have a high number of executions. It is tragic that we
have a large number of executions for drug-related charges, but we are trying
to change the present law.”
"In case the Parliament passes this new bill regarding
drug-related crimes, it will eliminate 80 percent of the executions in the country,”
he explained.
Iran's human rights chief also addressed the number of
journalists detained in Iran including the detention of Washington Post
correspondent Jason Rezaian, and said, "I hope the case of Rezaian's will be
presented to court ASAP, and he will be acquitted of all charges.”
