Sunday, 24 April 2022 (YJC)_ Argentina's foreign minister has said that sanctions are not a good way to achieve peace, adding that his country will not join anti-Russian sanctions.

Argentina: Sanctions against Russia do not lead to peaceDespite widespread pressure from the United States and the European Union on its allies on other continents to comply with and adhere to anti-Russian sanctions, Argentina opposes the effectiveness of the sanctions.

Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafeiro said Sunday morning:
His country does not intend to join the anti-Russian campaign because it considers the role of sanctions destructive.

According to the RIA Novosti website, Caffeiro said in an interview:
Announcing sanctions and a blockade is not a constructive way to achieve peace, dialogue and diplomatic negotiations.

He stressed that Argentina calls on Russia and Ukraine for dialogue.

According to RIA Novosti, he explained that there is currently no legal framework in Argentina to impose unilateral sanctions on Russia.

The Argentine Foreign Minister explained:
In fact, there is a law that prohibits this.

Earlier, the Bloomberg website reported that with the imposition of about 3,000 new sanctions against Russia by the United States and its allies, the country is among the top countries in the world in terms of sanctions.
