Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadr faction in Iraq, reacted to Ankara's move to launch a new military operation on Iraqi soil under the pretext of confronting the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
He issued a statement on his Twitter page in response to yesterday's (Monday, April 18) Turkish attack on Iraq under the name of "Operation Lock" (Claw Lock) on Iraqi soil:
Baghdad will not remain silent if Turkey repeatedly bombs Iraqi territory.
Al-Sadr added:
Our neighboring country, Turkey, bombed Iraqi territory without any excuse. If there was a threat from Iraqi territory, it should have coordinated with the Iraqi government to eliminate this danger, because the Iraqi security forces have the ability to eliminate this danger.
He clarified:
If Turkey repeats this, we will not remain silent, because Iraq is a country with full sovereignty and will not accept encroachment and disruption of its security, as well as encroachment on the territory of friendly and brotherly neighboring countries ... Knowing that, We are interested in strengthening common and balanced relations with all neighboring countries, as well as diplomatic and security relations in accordance with the existing diplomatic framework.
