The head of Yemen's Supreme Political Council, Mehdi al-Mashat, sent a congratulatory message to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday on the occasion of the National Day of Evacuation.
Al-Mashat emphasized in this message:
We are confident that the Syrian people, under your leadership, will once again mark Evacuation Day with the expulsion of the last American troops from Syria.
The last French soldier left Syria on April 17, 1946, and the people of this country celebrate this day every year as Independence Day and their national day.
