Sunday, 17 April 2022 (YJC)_ The Russian Defense Ministry and the Russian army have stated that they will be spared if Ukrainian forces besieged in Mariupol lay down their weapons.
The Russian Armed Forces on Sunday morning gave a deadline to the Ukrainian military in Mariupol to surrender.
The Russian Defense Ministry and the Russian army have announced that Ukrainian forces still fighting in Mariupol will lay down their lives if they lay down their arms by 3 a.m. GMT on April 17.
According to Reuters, Moscow also said that Ukrainian forces had cleared the Mariupol metropolitan area of Ukrainian troops and that only a small group of them remained in a steel plant in the besieged southern port.
Reuters also wrote:
If Mariupol falls, it will be Russia's biggest achievement in the war to date. It is the main port of the Denbas region, a region of two southeastern provinces that Moscow is demanding the complete handover to separatists.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the people of the besieged city of Mariupol had the right to surrender to the Russians or continue fighting.
