US President Joe Biden announced on Friday that Washington would deploy a Patriot missile defense system in Slovakia.
The US move comes after Slovakia handed over its S-300 missile defense system to Ukraine.
Biden welcomed the Slovak government's decision to move the S-300 system to Ukraine, saying it was part of a US effort to ensure Kiev's strength in defending itself against Russian aggression.
The US President added:
Now is not the time to be weak, and as the Russian army moves to re-establish itself for the next phase of the war, I have instructed the government to do its utmost to identify the advanced weapons that the Ukrainian army needs to defend itself and deliver them to Ukraine.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin also said on Friday that Slovakia's move to transfer the S-300 missile defense system to Ukraine would increase Ukraine's defense capabilities against Russian attacks.
