Monday, 4 April 2022 (YJC)_ The UN Secretary-General has expressed concern over leaked images of the Ukrainian city of Bucha and called for an independent inquiry into what happened in the city.
Despite Moscow's insistence that Ukraine's claims about the killing of civilians in the city of Bucha by Russian troops were untrue, the United Nations called for an independent investigation.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said Sunday evening that he was "deeply shocked" by the images of civilians killed in the town of Bucha and called for an independent inquiry that "would lead to an effective response."
"I am deeply shocked by the images of civilians killed in Bucha," Guttierez was quoted as saying by Reuters.
He also added:
It is essential that an independent inquiry be conducted that leads to an effective response.
Russia's Defense Ministry says accusations against Russian forces for killing civilians in the Kiev region are untrue and a new provocation by Ukrainian extremists.
Earlier, Russia's ambassador to the United Nations called for a Security Council meeting to review Ukraine's allegations of civilian casualties in the city of Bucha.
