Saturday, 2 April 2022 (YJC)_ China's foreign affairs director at Beijing said Beijing was opposed to sanctions, adding that China was not a party to the Ukraine crisis and that its normal trade with Russia should not be affected.

Beijing: We will continue normal trade with RussiaA senior Chinese diplomat has said that China is not deliberately circumventing Russian sanctions after the European Union warned Beijing about allowing Moscow to circumvent restrictions imposed after the invasion of Ukraine.

Wang Lutong, director general of European affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told reporters today (Saturday) that China is helping the global economy by conducting normal trade with Russia.

According to Reuters, he explained:
China is not a party to the Ukraine crisis. We do not think that our normal trade with any other country should be affected [by the Ukraine crisis].

Wang's remarks came a day after a virtual EU-China summit in which Brussels called for Beijing's assurances that it was seeking peace for Ukraine.

The Chinese diplomat stated:
We oppose sanctions, and the effects of these sanctions will spread to other parts of the world, leading to currency wars, trade and financial wars, as well as the risk of endangering the supply chain, the industrial chain and globalization, and even the economic order.

The director general of European affairs at the Chinese Foreign Ministry also said that no progress had been made at the Beijing-EU summit on the stalled investment agreement.
