According to the NHK website, the assets of four Russian companies, three Russians and six North Koreans involved in Pyongyang's recent missile test were seized.
The sanctions, which were approved at a Japanese cabinet meeting, bring the number of people sanctioned to 120 and the number of sanctioned institutions to 129.
All nine individuals and four companies that were sanctioned by Japan today are also on the US sanctions list, indicating Tokyo's adherence to Washington's policies.
Following North Korea's recent missile tests on strategic systems, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un stressed the need to continue developing North Korea's strategic capabilities.
