Two South Korean Air Force planes collided with each other during a training exercise in the skies today (Friday), killing three pilots and the fourth pilot missing in the rare accident, South Korean officials said.
South Korea's Yonhap news agency quoted fire officials as saying that more than 30 firefighters and rescue workers had begun searching the scene.
The South Korean Air Force said the crash occurred about six kilometers south of the KT-1 base in the southeastern city of Sacheon at about 1:37 p.m. (local time). The South Korean Air Force said in a statement that it had formed a team to determine the cause of the accident and the damage, despite the fact that three pilots had died and one had disappeared, despite trying to escape the emergency.
The KT-1 is a light training and attack single-engine aircraft jointly built by the State Agency for Defense Development and the Korean Aerospace Industries.
