Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said today (Saturday) regarding the new agreement announced between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait regarding the Arash gas field:
The Arash / Al-Dara gas field is a joint field between Iran and Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and parts of it are within the boundaries of the unbounded waters between Iran and Kuwait.
A State Department spokesman added:
According to international regulations and procedures, any action in the operation and development of this field must be done in coordination and cooperation of all three countries, and therefore the recent action of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in the form of a cooperation document is contrary to current procedures and previous negotiations and illegal Has no effect on the legal status of the field and is not approved by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Khatibzadeh further stated:
The Islamic Republic of Iran, as it has repeatedly stated, is ready to enter into negotiations with neighboring countries, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, on how to exploit this common field, and at the same time, in the framework of the results of previous negotiations with Kuwait on bilateral continental delimitation. Continue with Kuwait and also start trilateral talks between the three countries on defining the triple point.
