Friday, 25 March 2022 (YJC)_ "We are optimistic about the outcome of the Vienna talks and at the same time we are serious," said Foreign Minister Najib Mikati.
Following his consultations with high-ranking Lebanese officials, our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, met with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Thursday evening. In this meeting, Amir Abdullahian emphasized our country's readiness to cooperate with Lebanon in order to meet the country's needs in the field of energy, including electricity and gas, and added: "In this regard, we are interested in developing relations with Lebanon."
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country stated:
In the negotiations for the lifting of sanctions in Vienna, the Islamic Republic of Iran, while emphasizing the achievement of the demands for its rights, will not cross the red lines drawn - which is not to violate the interests and rights of the people of the country. We are optimistic and serious about the outcome of the Vienna talks. In our view, the agreement should be such that the lifting of sanctions is done to the maximum. We want the agreements to be in a way that benefits the region and to expand our good relations with the countries of the region.
At the meeting, the Lebanese Prime Minister also expressed hope for the success of the Vienna talks and stressed its positive effects on the region, including Lebanon.
Najib Mikati also welcomed the talks between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Saudi Arabia and said:
Lebanon will benefit from resolving disputes between the two countries.
He praised Iran's regional diplomacy to reduce tensions and resolve misunderstandings.
The meeting was attended by a group of Lebanese ministers.
