Thursday, 24 March 2022 (YJC)_ Russia's foreign minister has described the West's move to freeze its central bank assets as "pure theft."
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov described the Western countries' seizure of their central bank assets in response to developments in Ukraine as "pure theft."
According to Politico, Lavrov, speaking to staff and students at the Moscow Institute of International Relations, said no one had predicted the confiscation of Russian central bank assets.
He said:
They (the United States and the European Union) are boycotting the delivery of aircraft spare parts. They try to confiscate the planes, which are directly related to the welfare of the people and endanger their lives. But they do not care.
Lavrov added:
When the central bank reserves were frozen, no one among those who predicted thought about what sanctions the West might impose. This is pure theft.
According to Politico, the Russian foreign minister described the West's action as "theft" and said "Russia should never again rely on external resources."
He went on to say, of course, that Moscow was ready to cooperate with them in the near future if the West wanted.
