Qais al-Khazali, secretary general of the Asaeb Ahl al-Haq movement in Iraq, announced Tuesday evening that no agreement had been reached on holding a presidential election in the country.
"If the Sadr faction can form a larger faction, we will recognize it," al-Khazali said, adding that the Shiite Coordination Committee, known as the Coordination Framework, has 83 members, but will not form a cabinet alone.
Al-Ahd News Network reported, quoting the Secretary General of the Asaeb Movement:
We insist on forming a larger faction with the participation of all, but our preference is the Sadr faction.
He noted that the Sadr faction is a minority in the tripartite alliance with Sunnis and Kurds.
The Shiite Framework has allied itself with other personalities and groups under the name of Patriotic Proof, and this faction is a larger faction in number. We can form a larger faction.
In this regard, Rafiq al-Salehi, a representative of Iraq's Sadeghun parliamentary faction, announced last March that the Patriotic Coalition would be the largest faction in the Iraqi parliament.
The formation of a larger faction in the Iraqi parliament is important because it has the right to nominate a prime ministerial candidate for the presidency of Iraq and then form a new government.
