Sunday, 20 March 2022 (YJC)_ The United Nations and the Kiev government provided statistics on the material and human damage caused by the conflict in Ukraine.

UN: 847 killed in Ukraine conflictThe United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) announced Saturday evening that at least 847 civilians had been killed and 1,999 injured in Ukraine by March 18.

The UN agency said most of the casualties were from explosive weapons such as heavy artillery shelling, multi-launcher missile systems and missile and air strikes.

The actual death toll is thought to be significantly higher because the UN Office of Human Rights, which has a large monitoring team in Ukraine, has not yet been able to confirm reports of casualties from several affected cities, according to Reuters.

Officials in Kyiv also claimed that 228 people, including four children, had been killed in the Russian capital since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

According to Reuters, the Kyiv City Administration said in a statement that 912 other people were injured.

Reuters, however, stressed that it could not independently confirm the death toll.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced his readiness to continue peace talks with Russia and called on the Swiss government to confiscate the property of Russian citizens in the country.
