TEHRAN, YJC. Iran’s Deputy FM for Arab and African Affairs criticizes the US failure in fighting ISIL and says US intention is to deploy troops in Iraq once more.
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian pointed to the
US ineffective measures in combating terrorist groups and in particular ISIL,
and said, "there are serious doubts as to the Americans' honesty in their
counterterrorism strategies. Rather than concentrating their efforts on
combating ISIL, the US officials seems to be seeking the return of the Army to
Iraq.”
While stressing Iran’s support for a
united Iraq he said, "the political and security situation in Iraq is improving
and it is expected that the country will soon purge the remaining terrorist
groups by relying on its national capabilities.”
Iran’s deputy FM urged the UN to take a
more active role in regard to the humanitarian crisis in Iraq and Syria and
maintained that adopting the same approach in combating ISIL would yield the
most effective results in eliminating terrorism in the region.
