Ramallah welcomes the strengthening of Ankara-Tel Aviv relationsZionist President Ishaq Herzog arrived in Turkey on Wednesday last week after 13 years of apparent severance of ties between Ankara and Tel Aviv.

In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Palestinian Authority, Riyad al-Maliki, in an interview with Turkish networks, claimed that "the normalization of relations between Turkey and Israel" is a useful step for the Palestinian issue.

He added:
We are not surprised by this action of Turkey and we welcome it because it will help the Palestinians, especially in the city of Jerusalem and during the forthcoming Ramadan.

Al-Maliki clarified:
His Turkish counterpart, Mevlüt Çavuşoغlu, briefed him on all developments and said he would probably travel to occupied Palestine next April; Turkey's moves will not be at the expense of the Palestinians.

He continued:
A Turkey that was able to bring the Ukrainians and Russians together at one table may be able to bring us and the Israelis to the same table; We welcome any overt or covert invitation to sit down with Israel at the same table.

Al-Maliki also spoke about the Ukraine issue:
We are not a country and we can not take a stand in support of one side against the other, and we have relations with both sides.

Riyad al-Maliki's remarks came as various Palestinian groups reacted strongly to Turkey's move to welcome the Zionist leader.
