Friday, 11 March 2022 (YJC)_ Reuters reveals that the parent company, Facebook and Instagram, has allowed users not to block messages and requests for violence against Russian citizens and soldiers.
Access to Meta's internal emails revealed that the company has allowed Facebook and Instagram users in some countries not to block messages and user requests for violence against Russian citizens and soldiers.
The e-mail to the company's content managers also stated that posts calling for the death of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko should not be temporarily removed.
The company blamed Russian military operations in Ukraine for the policy changes.
According to the corporate email, Meta changes policy to apply violence against Russian troops to users in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia and Ukraine.
A spokesman for the parent company of Facebook and Instagram confirmed in a statement that calls for violence against the Russian military were allowed, but that such calls against civilians would still be banned.
