Tuesday, 8 March 2022 (YJC)_ An American website wrote that the United States and its allies, by imposing 2778 new sanctions against Russia, made it one of the top sanctioned countries in the world.
US media reported on Tuesday morning that Russia had become the most sanctioned country in the world in just 10 days.
Bloomberg News wrote:
As of February 22, 2,427 sanctions have been imposed on Russian individuals and 343 sanctions have been imposed on Russian companies or government agencies.
Bloomberg explained in the report:
Washington and its allies imposed 2,778 new sanctions on Russia, bringing the number of sanctions against Moscow to more than 5,530.
The news site claimed:
Within 10 days, Russia surpassed Iran and North Korea to become the country most targeted by sanctions in the world.
Bloomberg added:
Previously, Iran topped the list of sanctioned countries with 3,616 sanctions, most of which were imposed over a decade because of its nuclear program and support for terrorism.
The following is the report:
The pressure on Russia is growing almost every day. Over the weekend, American Express and Netflix joined the growing list of companies leaving Russia or suspending operations. Some do so because of sanctions, but others are self-imposed - those who decide to leave but are not legally required to do so.
"This is a nuclear financial war and the biggest sanctions event in history," said Peter Piatsky, a former Treasury official in former US administrations. "Russia, which was part of the global economy, became the biggest target of global sanctions and a financial weakness in less than two weeks."
A few days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that announcing sanctions was "like declaring war."
