Monday, 7 March 2022 (YJC)_ Italian Foreign Minister met with the Emir of Qatar amid Western concerns over European gas supplies amid continuing Russian military operations in Ukraine.
Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Mayo met with the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
According to the Al-Khaleej Online website, the Qatari court ruled in a statement:
In this meeting, bilateral relations, strategies to support and strengthen these relations and the most important regional and international developments were reviewed. In this regard, the Italian Foreign Minister said that the country and Qatar will work to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, and strengthening our relations with Qatar and other countries will prevent us from the possibility of blackmail with Russian gas in the future.
According to Reuters, Di Mayo said that Qatari officials would work to strengthen energy partnerships with Italy. On Saturday, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi spoke by telephone with the Emir of Qatar to discuss regional and international developments and issues of common concern.
Qatar has previously stressed that it alone cannot meet Europe's gas needs.
