Thursday, 3 March 2022 (YJC)_ A Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman said no decision had yet been taken to expel US diplomats from Russia.
Rejecting media reports that a US diplomat had been expelled from Russia, a Russian foreign ministry spokesman said Wednesday night that Russia was still considering response measures at this stage.
According to Interfax news agency, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denied media reports that the US ambassador to Russia, John Sullivan, had been fired in response to the dismissal of 12 members of Russia's permanent mission to the United Nations.
"Russia is still considering retaliatory measures."
Zakharova told reporters:
We are still considering response measures at this stage.
The media has previously reported that in response to US actions, Russia has decided to expel US Ambassador Sullivan.
As tensions with Russia continue, the US government on Monday named a number of Russian diplomats at the United Nations in New York as an "undesirable element." The United States has called 12 members of the Russian mission to the United Nations "undesirable elements" and urged them to leave the United States by March 7. Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia, called the move a "gross violation" of the UN Charter.
Following the decision of Russian President Vladimir Putin in response to a request for military assistance from the leaders of the separatist region of eastern Ukraine (Luhansk and Donetsk) and a special operation in the West Denbas region led by the United States is trying to help Ukraine regardless of Russia's demands Who had repeatedly called for negotiations to turn the region into a NATO military stronghold.
Meanwhile, the United States and its allies have exerted comprehensive economic, military and diplomatic pressure on Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin, who chaired a cabinet meeting Monday to oppose Western sanctions, called the West an "empire of lies."
