Tuesday, 1 March 2022 (YJC)_ The Russian foreign minister said Moscow hoped the Vienna talks would be successful and stressed that there was no logical alternative to the JCPOA.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he hoped the Vienna talks would be successful. He said in a statement at the disarmament conference:
Efforts are underway to revive the full implementation of the JCPOA Board in order to resolve the situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program. We hope they succeed. There is no logical alternative to the JCPOA.
According to Russia's RIA Novosti news agency, he added:
The commitments under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, reinforced by UN Security Council Resolution 2231, must be implemented by all without any conditions.
Lavrov continued:
We have to say that the current situation is clear evidence of how much Washington's inability to negotiate costs global security. Politics based on pressure and blackmail has no consequences.
Russia's representative in the Vienna talks, Mikhail Ulyanov, tweeted last night:
The JCPOA participants met this evening in Coburg, Vienna. Since April 2021, when the negotiations began, tremendous progress has been made. But there is a rule: nothing is agreed upon until everything is agreed upon. A final effort is essential to the successful conclusion of the Vienna talks.
