Monday, 28 February 2022 (YJC)_ Criticizing the Foreign Ministry's statement condemning Russia's military operation in Ukraine, the Russian ambassador to Lebanon said that he did not think the statement would affect bilateral relations between Beirut and Moscow.
Reacting to the Foreign Ministry's statement on the Ukraine crisis, Russian Ambassador to Lebanon Alexander Rudakov said that the Lebanese Foreign Ministry's statement condemning Russia's special military operation in Ukraine did not take into account the friendly and historic relations between Moscow and Beirut.
According to Al-Manar, Rudakov announced during a press conference held yesterday:
I do not think that the statement of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry will have much effect on the bilateral relations between Beirut and Moscow. In difficult days, we know who is with us and who is against us.
He stressed that Russia is not pursuing a hostile policy towards Ukraine, but is defending its right under Article 51 of the UN Charter to protect Russia's national security. Moscow has repeatedly called for the implementation of the Minsk agreement, but Ukraine is ignoring the rights of Russian citizens in the Luhansk and Donetsk republics and Moscow's right to protect its borders and national security.
