Saturday, 26 February 2022 (YJC)_ The EU foreign policy chief called on countries around the world to take a stand against Russia at the UN General Assembly.
Following the failure of the West to pass a resolution in the UN Security Council condemning military action in Ukraine, the European Union is considering passing the resolution in the UN General Assembly.
EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell tweeted on Saturday calling for an end to pressure from all countries in the international community to "end Russia's military aggression against Ukraine". In this new Twitter message, Borrell referred to the action of Western countries to approve the condemnation of Russia's special military operation in Ukraine at the UN Security Council meeting; An action that failed with the Russian veto.
This morning, Saturday, Tehran time, the UN Security Council rejected the resolution condemning the "attack on Ukraine". Russia vetoed the resolution, the UAE, India and China abstained, and 11 other Security Council members voted in favor.
Joseph Borrell wrote in a Twitter message:
"Voting in the UN Security Council demonstrated Russia's disregard for its responsibilities and obligations as a permanent member (of the UN Security Council)." "I urge the international community to unite and help end the Russian military aggression against Ukraine by passing a resolution in the UN General Assembly," he said.
The EU foreign policy chief took to Twitter to quote the EU mission to the UN General Assembly, stating that the EU, Ukraine and other partners were working to submit a resolution condemning the attack on Ukraine to the UN General Assembly.
A tweet from the EU Delegation to the United Nations read:
The veto prevented the UN Security Council from fulfilling its role. Together with Ukraine and our partners, we will submit to the General Assembly a resolution calling for the immediate withdrawal of Russian troops (from Ukraine).
