Friday, 25 February 2022 (YJC)_ The former German chancellor described the developments in Ukraine as a turning point in European history since the end of the Cold War.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday described the developments in Ukraine as a turning point for Europe.
According to the Al-Arabiya website, Merkel said:
I am watching the attack on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine with great concern and sympathy.
The former German Chancellor said:
The Russian military invasion marks a profound turning point in European history since the end of the Cold War.
She continued:
There is no justification for Russia's operation in Ukraine, and I strongly condemn this move.
Expressing solidarity with Ukraine, Merkel said she supported the efforts of new German Chancellor Olaf Schultz and other Western partners to deter Russia.
The German official was one of the supporters of the Russian gas transfer project to Europe called "Rolling Stream 2" and during his tenure called for the strengthening of relations between Berlin and Moscow. However, after a Russian military operation in Ukraine, the joint German-Russian project was canceled by Schultz.
