The Pentagon said Thursday night that 7,000 US troops would be sent to Europe as the conflict in Ukraine escalated.
According to the Xinhua website, a Pentagon official said after US President Joe Biden's speech on Russia's operation in Ukraine that 7,000 US troops were going to Germany.
The US official said:
These include an armored combat brigade with accompanying forces and support. The troops will be stationed in Germany as a guarantee for NATO allies, to act as a deterrent to Russian aggression, and to be prepared to support any need in the region. We expect this brigade to be sent in the coming days.
Earlier, a senior Pentagon official said in response to a special Russian military operation:
Russia's invasion of Ukraine could be bloody and costly and affect European security in the long run.
The statement said the United States plans to deploy six American F-35 fighter jets in the Baltic and Black Seas to support mass defense.
The announcement comes after Biden announced that it had authorized the deployment of US air and ground forces on European soil to counter Russia.
