Tehran, YJC. Former president Mohammad Khatami says It is not possible to close the country’s doors at the world and achieve advancement and progress, too.
In a meeting with a group of university professors and
students, Khatami said in response to their expressed concerns about elections
in Iran "The people’s presence in elections means individuals’ capability
through legal and democratic ways to have greater participation in their
country’s decision making.”
He noted that Iranians should all try to make the existing
democratic ways democratic in real sense of the word, so that they will not
merely be titles, but rather quite meaningful.
"Some folks are probably thinking about how to solve this
problem and God willing they will reach tangible results, so that what our revolution
and our laws demanded will come true,” asserted Khatami.
"Different people and groups come with various viewpoints, our
argument is that all viewpoints need to be heard, rather than those of certain
groups, while observing lots of limitations for the others,” Khatami said.
