Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan al-Saud says his country's military strike on Yemen was aimed at protecting the ousted government of Mansour Hadi, but that it took longer than Riyadh expected.
In an interview with the German News Agency, Bin Farhan said:
We intervened with our partners to help and protect the Yemeni government. We hoped it would not take long, but unfortunately it took longer than we expected.
Claiming that his country is continuing its efforts to find a political process to resolve the crisis, he added:
Saudi Arabia proposed a ceasefire last March, followed by a political process, and this is the second time that Saudi Arabia has proposed it.
Without mentioning the Yemeni National Salvation Government's emphasis on the need to lift the all-out siege of the country and to completely stop the attacks of the Saudi coalition and its mercenaries to enter the dialogue to find a political solution, Bin Farhan claimed:
Unfortunately, the Houthis have not yet accepted our offer and are refusing to negotiate positively.
The Saudi foreign minister also blamed the Ansarullah movement for escalating tensions over military operations to liberate areas controlled by the Saudi coalition and its mercenaries, such as Marb.
