US President Joe Biden said Saturday morning (Tehran time) that Russia had failed in its attempt to create a rift between us and our allies.
Speaking at a news conference, he added:
The past few days have seen repeated violations by pro-Russian separatists (in eastern Ukraine).
Biden added:
Russia continues to spread misleading claims about genocide in eastern Ukraine.
The US President added:
Russia is spreading misleading information to justify its attack, as it has in the past.
He claimed that Russian forces had besieged Ukraine from various border areas and that Russia was expected to launch an attack on Ukraine in the coming days.
"We expect Russia to target the Ukrainian capital, Kiev," Biden told a news conference.
The US President expressed confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin had decided to attack Ukraine.
He said the United States was ready to defend every inch of NATO and allied territory, and that turning to Russia to escalate tensions would mean closing the diplomatic path and choosing the option of war.
Biden said it was not too late for Russia to return to talks, but that if the Russians chose war, they would pay a heavy price.
The US President said that the country will not send troops to fight in Ukraine but will continue to support the Ukrainian people.
