TEHRAN, YJC. Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman has strongly condemned raid on the house of Bahraini Shia cleric Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Ahmed Qassem.
Marzieh Afkham described the act as "inconsiderate”, Tehran Times reports.
On Tuesday, Bahraini security forces raided the house of Sheikh Qassem and even took photos of the ID cards of everyone inside the house in Diraz, west of the capital Manama.
The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman noted that the Bahraini officials are expected to respect the status of Qassem between the people and punish the perpetrator of this action.
Bahrainis voted on Saturday in the first parliamentary elections since 2011 when mostly Shiite protesters took to the streets demanding more democracy, Reuters reported on Saturday
The elections were boycotted by the Shia opposition over accusations that constituency changes would still favor the Sunni Muslim majority represented by the ruling family.
