The remarks come as Turki al-Faisal, the former head of Saudi Arabia's intelligence service, said in an interview with Siwanan in November that Riyadh needed everything it needed to defend itself against Iran, including acquiring a bomb. Do the core.
Al-Faisal claimed that Iran was looking for a nuclear bomb:
I have said before that we must do whatever is necessary, including developing a nuclear bomb to defend ourselves against the possibility of a nuclear Iran.
Following Turki al-Faisal's remarks, Saudi Energy Minister Abdul Azir bin Salman referred to the country's uranium reserves at a conference on mines in December and said:
We are looking to develop our nuclear program and I will be really clear on this. We have a lot of uranium and we have to exploit it. We will help our partners to exploit these resources and develop them with the highest degree of transparency, and we will reach a commercial aspect to make full use of them.
Saudi officials announced the development of their nuclear program while accusing Iran of trying to obtain a nuclear bomb.
