Tehran, YJC. As much as the Iranian hold Nowruz special, there are things they do prior to the moment when the New Year strucks.
In the last month of the old year, people have been
very busy preparing for the New Year. In the Esfand (covering ten days of
February and 19/20 from March) people have been pretty busy from the early
morning until late at night.
First thing first has been to clean the house.
Cleaning the furniture and getting the rugs washed is only the easy part of the
deal. It gets a lot complicated when it gets to the kitchen with a lot of
things big and small here and there. For some it takes days, even a couple of
weeks to do all the cleaning. But, believe me, washing carpets is the hardest!
Second, people must have thought of how they
themselves look. After all, a new year would not mean much if you are not
attired entirely anew when you visit folks during the holiday. The case is more
obvious for women who keep busy cleaning the house in the morning, and leave
shopping for the evening. The town is just a big cluster of cars and people
swarming here and there.
Also there has been a busy market for foods. Nuts are a favorite for the New Year and they
constitute a part of the New Year table. Sweets and fruits are another main part.
Besides these, many people leave the bigger things
they intended to buy for the last month of the year. From home appliances to
computer and car, things are dealt a lot in the last-month-of-the-year market.
