Wednesday, 16 February 2022 (YJC)_ Referring to the US's bad record in fulfilling its commitments, the Iranian foreign minister stressed that Congress should issue a political statement regarding Washington's commitments to the UN Security Council.

Amir-Abdollahian: Congress should issue In an exclusive interview with the Financial Times, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, stated that the US Congress should issue a "political statement" regarding Washington's commitments to the JCPOA and its return to the nuclear deal.

The British newspaper The Financial Times reported that as Vienna talks on lifting unilateral sanctions against Iran reached a critical juncture, Iran proposed that the US Congress issue a "political statement" on its commitment to a nuclear deal with Tehran.

According to this report, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has emphasized:
Washington has failed to respond to Iran's request to ensure that neither side can leave the nuclear deal, and the United States has once again left the JCPOA during Donald Trump's presidency.

On the other hand, Amir Abdullahian also reiterated in his interview that Tehran wants the lifting of all sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran during the Trump era.

He explained in this regard:
In principle, public opinion in Iran can not accept the profession of the head of state as a guarantee, let alone the United States, which has left the JCPOA.

According to the report, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran told senior Iranian negotiators to propose to the Western parties that "at least their parliamentarians or their parliamentary speakers, including the US Congress, make a commitment to this in the form of a political statement." "Announce the agreement and return to the implementation of the JCPOA."

Amir-Abdollahian explained about Iran's obligations to the JCPOA:
Iran's commitment to transparency is a mathematical formula. What we are going to do and how these actions are being verified through the agency [UN nuclear watchdog] is quite clear. So the other side can have no worries, but in the first place we are still worried about the guarantees [that the United States will not leave].
