Wednesday, 16 February 2022 (YJC)_ The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister stressed that the main threat in Syria comes from international terrorism, which arose from the recent US operation to eliminate the ISIS leader.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Siromolotov said Moscow was concerned about the state of US-occupied territory in Syria.
RT quotes Siromolotov as saying:
We are very concerned about the new situation in the areas that are not under the control of the Syrian government; Especially in Idlib and Al-Tanf; [An area] where the illegal American military presence persists.
He continued:
There is a clear reason that the main threat comes from international terrorism, which arises from the recent US operation to eliminate the leader of ISIS (Abu Ibrahim al-Quraishi) in Idlib.
The Russian official noted:
An attack by the ISIS terrorist group on al-Sinaa prison in al-Hasakah province in northeastern Syria in January this year led to the release of hundreds of dangerous terrorists.
The prison was controlled by Kurdish militias known as the "Syrian Democratic Forces". These elements are also dependent on the United States. Some news sources also said that the Americans, with the help of these elements, escaped the ISIL terrorists from this prison.
Siromolotov concluded:
All these facts indicate that the Syrian government must take control of all areas of the country as soon as possible, and that there must be active international cooperation with Damascus in the fight against terrorism.
