Tuesday, 8 February 2022 (YJC)_ The US ambassador in Beirut said that some parties might try to postpone the elections, noting that the Lebanese parliamentary elections should be held on time.
The US ambassador to Beirut, Dorty Xia, said the Lebanese parliamentary elections should be held in May.
"There is concern that some powerful parties may try to postpone the election because the election results may cause them to lose power in the House of Representatives," he told Reuters. "There is a consensus in the international community on the need to hold elections in a timely and transparent manner, and there is no room for maneuver in this regard."
According to the Al-Arabi Al-Jadeed website, the UN Security Council last week stressed the importance of holding free, fair, transparent and inclusive elections on time (May 15, 2022).
