The last US troops to leave Afghanistan in August are stationed in Poland to counter the Russian threat against NATO allies, according to US officials.
Chris Donahue, commander of the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army, was the last US troops to leave Kabul at midnight on Monday night.
His photo was released on September 29, when he left Afghanistan by Centcom or the US Central Command. According to newly released images, Chris Donahue, a high-ranking general, is stationed in Poland near central Ukraine. At the behest of US President Jubaiden, 1,700 US troops will be stationed in Poland.
Donahue reportedly commanded dozens of US troops and equipment stationed on the Ukrainian border. Hundreds of other infantry from the US 82nd Airborne Division are expected to enter the area.
Russia has deployed about 100,000 troops on the Ukrainian border. Moscow has emphasized that it has no plans to invade Ukraine, but the West is concerned about Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The United States, which has sent 3,000 troops to Eastern Europe, says it has no plans to clash with Russia on Ukrainian soil.
