Thursday, 3 February 2022 (YJC)_ Turkish officials say Iranian gas exports to Turkey have been resumed on a trial basis.

Confirmation of resumption of Iranian gas exports to TurkeyLast Friday, Turkey's Botas announced that Iran, as one of the country's main gas suppliers, would temporarily restrict flow in its export pipeline.

Turkish officials have now announced that Iranian gas exports to the country have begun.

Iranian gas exports to Turkey were suspended for 10 days in late January due to technical problems.

Botas also said that the restriction on gas consumption in Turkish industrial facilities would be reduced from 40% to 20% on the resumption of Iranian gas exports. Turkey gets almost all of its gas from Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran.

According to official statistics, in the first 10 months of 2021, Iran supplied 16% of Turkey's gas needs.

Due to the lack of gas, some Turkish factories, including Ege, Cartoonsan, and Catmersiler, have stopped production.

The price of gas in Turkey has skyrocketed, and President Tayeb Erdogan stressed a few days ago that the suspension of Iranian gas exports to Turkey was not due to debt.

The Turkish side has said that Iran has postponed the repair of its gas pipeline to the country until the spring.

One of the reasons for the rise in gas prices in Turkey is the 44% fall in the value of the Turkish lira, along with the rise in gas prices in the world market. Electricity prices in Turkey have risen by 125 percent for commercial use and 50 percent for home use.
