Saturday, 29 January 2022 (YJC)_ The British government plans to announce tougher sanctions against Russia next Monday.
Continuing pressure from Washington and some of its allies on Moscow under the pretext of developments in Ukraine, the British Foreign Office seeks to target "Russia's strategic and financial interests."
As pressure continues from Washington, London and some Western allies on Moscow and provocative actions by NATO members with arms supplies to Ukraine and the deployment of troops to Eastern Europe, Britain will unveil a new anti-Russian action on Monday.
According to the Russian "Tass" news agency, an informed source close to the decision-making and influential circles in the British government announced that the British Foreign Office will announce the tightening of sanctions against Russia on January 31 (Monday, February 2).
"It is likely that the British Foreign Office will announce its (against Russia) sanctions regimes in parliament on Monday so that Britain can target Russia's strategic and financial interests," said an unnamed source.
The source did not specify exactly whether the British Foreign Office would impose new sanctions on Russia or whether a new package of sanctions would be imposed in the event of a "Russian invasion of Ukraine."
According to the source, "the British Prime Minister discussed diplomatic tactics and sanctions options with the Foreign Secretary last week before informing the Cabinet about the situation and the next steps of the government (in the face of tensions with Russia over Ukraine)."
He added:
Britain will also join discussions at the UN Security Council in New York on Monday in a bid to put more pressure on Russia to turn to its diplomats instead of using military means to allay its concerns. Britain will use the meeting to expose Russia's incomplete narrative and present facts.
