Thursday, 27 January 2022 (YJC)_ Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN said if the situation in Afghanistan is not controlled, it could lead to socio-politic collapse.
Speaking in a session of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on the situation of Afghanistan on Thursday, Iran’s ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Majid Takht-Ravanchi said if the situation in Afghanistan is not controlled, it could lead to socio-politic collapse.
“Afghanistan is confronting an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, and if it left uncontrolled it could lead to socio-politic collapse,” he said.
Takht-Ravanchi went on to add that “More than 24 million people in Afghanistan are in dire need of humanitarian assistance and now more than 9 million Afghan people are displaced. Iran expresses its serious concern about the possible destructive consequences of the current situation in Afghanistan.”
Referring to the humanitarian aid Iran has given to Afghanistan including basic goods such as food, medicine and medical equipment, he said “Since Taliban takeover, Iran has kept its borders with Afghanistan open to help Afghan people.”
Iranian envoy also referred to the US sanctions and the limitations it brings to the country and noted “Iran’s financial resources have been limited due to these cruel sanctions.”
