Following a telephone conversation between the US Secretary of State and his Chinese counterpart, the two countries' foreign ministries issued separate statements regarding the telephone consultation. According to the statements, the main focus of the bilateral talks was on the recent tensions over Ukraine.
According to the State Department, Joe Biden's Secretary of State Anthony Blinken reiterated talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi against "Russian aggression against Ukraine" and accusations by Washington and some of its allies against Moscow.
"Secretary Blanken stressed the global security and economic risks of further Russian aggression in Ukraine, and said that reducing tensions and diplomacy was the way forward," the State Department said in a statement.
The State Department also announced that Blinken and Wang Yi "discussed how to advance joint work (US-China) after President Biden's virtual meeting with President Xi (Jinping) on November 15, 2021, including on strategic risk management and health security." The Chinese Foreign Ministry also issued a statement regarding Foreign Minister Wang Yi's telephone conversation with his US counterpart Anthony Blinken.
