Addressing the nation and the armed forces, Iraqi Defense Minister Juma Anad stressed that the situation of ISIS is not the same as in 2014.
He said:
Over the past two days, social networks have released several audio files claiming that they belong to an unknown source of information, but the truth is that these files are a psychological war waged by the enemy and the hostile parties against their country.
According to the Iraqi News Agency (WAA), Anad said:
I do not underestimate the capabilities of the enemy and I do not reject any information, and this is a basic information principle, but I emphasize that the situation of the enemy is not comparable to what it was before 2014, and the incident in the Greater Zion is a continuation of previous incidents. Low- and middle-ranking commanders will cause it, and the culprits will be brought to justice.
The Iraqi Minister of Defense also clarified:
Before 2014, the enemy was a powerful organization inside and outside Iraq, and its secret gangs were also equipped and armed with explosive belts, heavy artillery, and other equipment and weapons, but now these gangs are really small and unarmed.
He added:
Terrorist gangs operating in the field are also small and have basic weapons, including rifles and sniper rifles.
Anad also said:
The Iraqi-Syrian borders are also well monitored and controlled, and we are following the incidents in Al-Haska prison.
