The Department of Conservation and Care of Salanges has announced that the Salang Highway has been closed to traffic due to storms and heavy snowfall.
The department issued a statement this morning (Saturday) asking passengers not to travel from Salang until the highway reopens.
According to the Department of Preservation and Care of Salanges, the highway was closed to traffic early last night due to wind in the southern Salang and heavy snowfall in the northern Salang.
The Salang Highway connects Kabul with nine provinces in northern and northeastern Afghanistan. This highway is closed to traffic every year in winter due to heavy snowfall and storms.
The Kabul-Jalalabad road, which connects Kabul to Afghanistan's four eastern provinces, was closed this morning due to heavy snowfall and a mountain fall in Kabul's Surobi district.
Two days ago, the Meteorological Agency of Afghanistan predicted heavy snowfall and heavy rains almost all over Afghanistan with floods and avalanches.
