Friday, 21 January 2022 (YJC)_ Yemeni sources reported that dozens of people were killed and wounded in a Saudi coalition airstrike on a prison in the northwest.

140 killed and wounded in Saudi coalition attack on a prison in YemenYemeni media reported this morning (Friday) that Saudi fighters had targeted a temporary prison in Saada (northwestern) province.

Al-Masira reported, quoting its correspondent in Saada province, that dozens of people had been killed and injured in the attack, and that operations to remove the victims from the rubble were ongoing.

About 2,500 people have reportedly been in the prison, and rescue workers are currently trying to rescue them.

Hours later, Al-Masira reported on its official Telegram channel that preliminary information indicated that 140 prisoners had been killed and wounded.

"Hospitals are full of martyrs and wounded, and we are in dire need of medicine and medical supplies," the governor of Saada reported, according to al-Masira.

"All international organizations have already visited the temporary prison," he added. "We urgently need blood donations to save the injured."

Al-Mayadin also reported that some of the victims of the attack were not Yemeni and that the death toll was likely to rise.

The attack came as Yemeni media reported last night that Saudi fighter jets had attacked the port of al-Hudaidah (western Yemen).
