Wednesday, 19 January 2022 (YJC)_ South Korea's deputy foreign minister spoke on the phone with his US counterpart to discuss a range of issues, including Iran.
South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Choi Jong-kan said in a message posted on his Twitter page today (Wednesday) that he had spoken by telephone with the US Deputy Secretary of State about a range of issues, including Iran.
He wrote in this regard:
I had a great phone call with the Deputy Secretary of State (US) about cooperation on Myanmar, Iran, Ukraine, NATO and North Korea. Searching for Diplomatic Solutions to Global Challenges is a difficult work of art that requires courage, perseverance and strength, and makes the alliance between South Korea and the United States stronger and more flexible.
During the current round of Vienna talks on lifting unilateral sanctions against Iran, Choi Jong-kan left for Vienna on Tuesday (January 5th) to meet with representatives of the JCPOA and the United States for a five-day meeting on the progress of the Vienna talks on lifting sanctions. Unilateral sanctions against the United States and the clarification of the status of frozen Iranian assets will meet with representatives of Germany, Russia, China, the United States, France and Iran and the Vice President for Foreign Affairs of the European Union.
South Korea's foreign ministry also said in a statement that it hoped Iran's blocked assets would be released soon.
South Korea's debt to Iran in exchange for the purchase of gas condensate in the two banks of this country is worth a total of seven billion dollars, which has not been paid since September 2018 under the pretext of US sanctions.
